Episode 04

Competency - based education / Francisco Ayala

Andrew J. Rotherham and Daniel T. Willingham (2010) mentions that, although there is a common idea in society that students need to be successful in 21st century skills, these abilities aren't new. What is new is the context they face to demonstrate them. Hence, in education, a competency-based model; that focuses on the design of meaningful and interesting contexts that motivate students to solve and seek solutions for the challenges that arise. The concept behind a competency-based educational model seeks to measure learning by showing what can be done with what is known.

The Tec21 Educational Model allows the formation of solid, comprehensive and integral competences that support the creative and strategic resolution of the challenges of the present and future (Tec de Monterrey, 2022).

It is a learning model based on challenges that enables the generation of contexts that the student will face, and is characterized by four key elements: personalization, flexibility, inspiring professors and the generation of a memorable experience..
